You may ask them that instead of freaking, they could help by remaining calm. If you’re not sure what to do in that particular situation, simply stay with the person. Secondly, think first before you act. If you are in an emergency, it can be frightening. React positively to the situation. You should breathe deep before you take any action. Things may go unexpectedly in an emergency, don’t panic if things suddenly go in a different direction than what you have planned and anticipated. Whenever you’re overwhelmed or confused, take time to pause for a while. If you need to stop on the ongoing response to calm down, that’s okay, not much is expected of you.
Being there is already a big help. Next, you have to get the first aid kit. Try to look for tools and necessary supplies that you may use for taking care of the person. Any first aid kit should contain the basics such as bandages, gauze, adhesive tape, disinfectant, and others. In the absence of the first aid kit, consider other items in your immediate area that might be of a good alternative. The next to do is to ask the basic questions of the injured person. It’s essential to determine the mental state of the victim to understand better the person’s injuries and respond to your questions. If the person appears confused, this may mean additional injuries. If you’re not sure if the person is in a stable condition, you are advised to touch their shoulder. Shout or ask loudly if they are okay. The fundamental question you should as is their name, the date today, and how old is he or she.
Once you’ve assesses the primary mental status of the person, ask them about any medical complications. Ask them if they have a medical ID. It is not safe to move an injured person. Always call emergency services if someone is unable to move or has any neck injury. If the person can’t walk, you can help move by holding them at your shoulders. Some persons are afraid to leave a dangerous situation, so you have to respond to them with reassurance. You may, of course, use the telephone to ask for help but make it brief. Your full attention should be on the existing situation, and talking on the phone is distracting. If you’re not sure of the situation, call emergency services immediately. Lastly, don’t try to document the emergency unless you are sure you are out of danger. It’s a no-no to take selfies.
