William J. Lubin, PA, MBA, DrPH, President and Chief Executive Officer
William J. Lubin, PA, MBA, DrPH., has served as President, CEO, and Director of American WholeHealth, Inc., since October 2000. Dr. Lubin was originally engaged as a consultant to our company, leading a very successful operations improvement and business unit integration program.
Dr. Lubin has 28 years of experience in healthcare as a practitioner, hospital administrator, educator, and researcher and spent 10 years with managed care companies in a diverse set of leadership roles (operations, business development, product development, network development and management, and marketing and sales.) His experience includes Executive VP and Chief Executive Officer for a large national practice management company, Director of Health Care Delivery Systems for Aetna Health Plans as well as Division VP for Lincoln National Health Plan, and Product Manager for the over-65 business segment of BlueCross BlueShield of Connecticut. He also worked clinically for 10 years as a physician associate, and founded, co-owned and served as President of a regional group practice management company. He has held P and L responsibility for revenue lines of up to $400 million.
William is a graduate of Providence College (BA/BS) and Albany Medical College, where he received a Physician Associate degree. He earned an MBA from the University of Connecticut, specializing in healthcare administration and long-term care, and attended Western New England School of Law. Dr. Lubin was named a Pew Memorial Trust Fellow and completed his Doctorate in Public Health in the School of Public Health, Health Management, and Policy, University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, Michigan.
Dr. Lubin has published several articles on health care issues and has been a frequent speaker at industry events. He has a strong research interest in health care outcomes, consumer-driven health care delivery systems, medical informatics, and has completed seminal research using SF-36 in relation to integrative medicine services.
Mary Anne Mason, Vice President of Development
Ms. Mason is a business development specialist with more than 20 years of experience in the healthcare industry. She has served as Vice President of Development for American WholeHealth Networks since 1997. She was previously Director of Business Development for Caremark Physician Resources where she led a team that grew its revenue from $150 million to $1 billion. Ms. Mason was previously Regional Vice President for Caremark Orthopedic Services, where she served as general manager for the East Coast Physical Therapy business. She was responsible for operations, sales, managed care contracting, physician partner relationships, and business development.
From 1981 to 1992, Ms. Mason held a series of positions of increasing responsibility for Baxter Health Care. She rose from Regional Manager for Baxter Hospital Supply in Charlotte, North Carolina, to Director of National Sales in McGraw Park, Illinois. She was promoted to Area Vice President in 1990 and managed a $250 million dollar division of the company. Ms. Mason is a graduate of the University of Kentucky.
David L. Waldron, Chief Financial Officer
Mr. Waldron joined American WholeHealth Networks as the chief accounting officer in March 2000. He is a CPA with extensive experience in accounting and financial reporting for multi-location public and private companies. Prior to joining AHWN, Dave was VP of Finance and Controller at Execustay, a $180 million public lodging company. He also served as Controller for Hanger Orthopedic, a $170 million vertically integrated medical practice management company with more than 200 locations. Dave graduated from Brown University with a degree in economics and organization behavior & management, and attended the University of Maryland, completing the accounting/finance curriculum that led to his CPA.
Billie York, Director of Information Technology
Billie joined the AWHN senior management team as Director of Information Technology in 2002. With more than 23 years of progressive technology experience, Billie has served in an IT management capacity for more than 15 years. From 1997 to 2002, she served as the IT Manager at Lafarge North America, a leading corporation in the American and Canadian building materials markets. Prior to Lafarge, Ms. York was a major contributor to the growth and expansion of the Information Technology department for Durham Regional Hospital (www.durhamregional.org), which is currently part of the Duke University Health System. She enjoyed her healthcare IT responsibilities for eight years where she worked directly with practitioners, hospital departments, clinics, and facilities serving primary, emergency, and specialty care services throughout the community. She holds a BS and is pursuing a graduate degree from Strayer University. Both degrees are in Computer Information Systems, her life-long career path.
Douglas D. Byrd, Esq., VP and General Counsel
Doug is the Vice President and General Counsel of American WholeHealth Networks, Inc. Prior to joining AWHN, Mr. Byrd was a partner in the healthcare department of the international law firm McDermott, Will & Emery, where he represented numerous health care providers, payers, and networks in mergers and acquisitions, financings, regulatory compliance and various health care transactions, and with Sulloway & Hollis, PLLC, a large regional New England law firm, where he represented health care and business clients in similar transactions. Before practicing law, Mr. Byrd developed and operated a network of medical practices in Massachusetts, and a network of walk-in centers in Houston, Texas. He also operated a hospital near Houston and practiced as a health care consultant with VHA Health Ventures, Inc., an affiliate of Voluntary Hospitals of America.
Mr. Byrd holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business and Economics, a Master of Health Services Administration from The George Washington University, Washington, DC, and a law degree form the New England School of Law, Boston, Massachusetts.
